exopolitics

The term Exopolitics is used by some people to refer to the political aspects of dealing with extraterrestrial civilization. In other words, it relates to what should happen if intelligent extraterrestrial life is found and we are able to communicate with it. The people of the world and their governments will need to determine how to manage those interactions. Authors such as Michael Salla and Alfred Webre have considered the development of policy guidelines for dealing with extraterrestrial beings and territory.

At present, it is a purely theoretical field, which is generally not accepted as part of mainstream political science.

The Associated Press reported in January 2006, that the American Dialect Society nominated the word "exopolitics" as one of the potential words of the year for 2005.

Exopolitics goes public

Former Canadian Minister of National Defense Hon. Paul Hellyer publicly disclosed his belief that UFOs are real in an article first published on September 11, 2005 on Maclean's website, written by journalist John Ward of the Canadian Press newswire. This article announced that he would be speaking at an exopolitics conference in Toronto on September 25, 2005; it was later picked up by most major Canadian newspapers such as the National Post, Montreal Gazette, the Toronto Star, and dozens of other smaller urban media newspapers and websites.
