classical libertarianism
Classical libertarianism is a social, political, and economical philosophy that stands for individual liberty from a socialist perspective - a synonym for anarchism. It is the term used to refer to libertarianism before it was appropriated by capitalists in America in the 1950's (hence the word "classical"). While capitalists have claimed to be "classical liberals", in attempts to recuperate the term "liberalism" in order to force liberals who believe in regulation of capitalism (that is, those capitalists who admit that capitalism causes harm) to be defined as not liberals at all, American anarchists have been forced to use the term "classical libertarian" to differentiate themselves from modern libertarians in America who are trying to appropriate the name "libertarian" from its use by people such as Kropotkin and Durruti, who clearly used the term before capitalists did.
