Mozilla Firefox is a free, open-source web browser from Mozilla Foundation.
It is generally regarded as a more secure alternative to Internet Explorer. Some reasons given are:
- It has fewer weaknesses that allow spyware to enter the system, and the developers have a track record of responding quickly once weaknesses are discovered;
- The web page cache is easier to clean and the whole browser history, cookies, etc. can be deleted with just one click; and
- So far, investigators are less experienced in recovering deleted accessory files for this browser, though this may only be of temporary advantage.
Recent vulnerabilities in Firefox have called into question the “fewer weakness†rationale and it is now believed that Firefox may have an ever-increasing number of weaknesses as the number of users increases; thus increasing the potential benefit for designers of exploits.
