Eric Arthur Blair (June 25, 1903 -- January 21, 1950)

Born Eric Blair, and later better known by his pen name, George Orwell was a novelist, journalist and satirist. His works were published in the 1930s and 1940s and were largely political in nature. His most famous books are Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four but he has written several other novels.
