A gold coin scam is a scam in which a company advertises gold bullion for a reasonable price, but when one tries to order it over the phone, there is a sales person that persistently tries to sell something else instead- collectors' gold coins that are supposedly guaranteed to go up in value. However, those supposed collectors' gold coins are a very bad deal, in which one gets only about half the value of gold per dollar that one would get if one were to buy the bullion.
