One billion (1,000,000,000) is the natural number following 9,999,999,99 and preceding 1,000,000,001. (The word "billion" can sometimes refer to 1,000,000,000,000, however in the long scale usage).
In scientific notation, it is written as 109. Physical quantities can be expressed using the SI prefix giga.
