Critical Mass is a worldwide movement that involves large groups of people riding bicycles through the streets, particularly in busy areas, with the purpose of promoting bike usage and drawing attention to the dangerous, alienating, and environmentally costly form of transportation known as the automobile. Though there is no political philosophy behind Critical Mass, it is described as anarchist in structure since there is no central organization and all Critical Mass rides are independent of each other. In fact, many Critical Mass riders do not identify as anarchist and are simply there for a fun ride to promote a clean form of transportation.
