The United Nations is an international peacekeeping organization headquartered in New York City.
The United Nations is not a democratic institution, with a permanent bloc of nations that have superior voting rights to all other member nations. Member nations are given turns at a chance to share these superior voting rights.
It is charged with the maintenance of peace and protection of the rights of the member states. Almost every widely recognized sovereign state is a member, with a few notable exceptions[1]. The most important agency of the United Nations is the Security Council.
