The movement for such separation is most visible in Western countries, especially France; the bulk of support for such a separation comes from students' unions, even though a minority is primarily opposed to commercial advertising in educational/campus media. Most of the opposition is directed against privatization of state-owned/tax-funded educational institutions, as well as against corporate ownership of educational institutions and services.
