1851 -- Joseph Dejacque, French anarchist, sentenced to two years in prison for a volume of poetry, "Lazaréennes: Socialist Fables & Poems." Escaped to London.

1882 -- France: During the night a bomb explodes at the restaurant of the Bellecour Theatre in Lyon, killing an employee. The anarchist Antoine Cyvoct was wrongly suspected.

1899 -- Arthur Lehning lives. German anarchist. Founder, in 1919, with Rudolf Rocker & Augustin Souchy, of the FAUD. Establishes & becomes curator of the monumental "Bakunin Files", with the International Institute of Social History of Amsterdam, in 1971.

1905 -- Chile: Today, during "Semana Roja" (Red Week), a crucial event in early Chilean workers' history, 30,000 people join the uprising in Santiago, inspired by the revolutionary ideas sweeping working class public opinion.

1913 -- Action/war photographer Robert Capa lives, Budapest, Austro-Hungary. Instrumental in forming photographer-owned outfit (Magnum) to aid photographers & distribute their work cooperatively without getting ripped-off.

1921 -- George Brassens lives. French anarchist militant, nonconformist poet, began writing/singing songs in 1952. Popular, but reclusive as a star. Songs include "La mauvaise réputation", "La non-demande en mariage," "Les copains d'abord".

1922 -- Jacques Ibert tone poem "Ballad of Reading Gaol" premiers, Paris.

1998 -- US: National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, & the Criminalization of a Generation! Among the signatories is longtime Chicago poet/anarchist protestor Joffre Stewart.

2000 -- US: Stop Police Brutality demonstrations. Prime example this year was a police attack on Errol Maitland, award winning radio producer at WBAI/Pacifica: targeted, beaten & arrested by NYC police while reporting live at Patrick Dorismond's funeral in Brooklyn.

2005 -- England: 24th Annual Anarchist Book Fair. Camden Centre, Judd Street. Followed by benefit gig with Chumbawamba & Gertrude.
