Disappearance or to be disappeared usually implies being arrested in such a way that the future where-abouts are unknown. Disappeared people are normally assumed to be dead, but it is possible that they are placed into a prison or other incarceration facility indefinitely. The goal of disappearances is normally to terrorize the population, and to force them to comply to an the policies of the authority.
