Collective is a non-hierarchical organizations that are based up on the social nature of humans. Ideally they operate on the premise that all members have at least one common goal, which the collective then endeavors to fulfill. Today, collectives are usually based on the political philosophies of anarchism or socialism, although collective behaviors have existed as long as man. Most collectives run on consensus decision making, which requires dedication to criticism and self-criticism.

Many collectives of today are also cooperative businesses. Collectivism goes beyond the traditional ideas of class, countries or races of people. Collectivist theory suggests that people do not have to be like, to form a political block. Anarchist organizations should be collectives, since anarchists supposedly do not believe in seizing power.
