Talk:Main Page

From Anarchopedia

With old rewrite rules it was not possible to upload files. With new it is possible. You will see links like ".../index.php/some_page", but it is possible to type "http://deu.anarchopedia.org/some page" and your url will be rewritten to "http;//deu.anarchopedia.org/index.php/some_page". When we would have some faster machines or some better MediaWiki code, we would have "nice urls", too. --millosh 05:32, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

i don't get the sense of the featured articel Anarchopedia:troll this is vandalism, isn't it? --83.64.198.175 14:16, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Doesn't look like vandalism to me. No page history. Yet perhaps, a misunderstanding. --Anni 07:03, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

QUESTION, JESUS CHRIST

I added this edit like a YEAR AGO, or something like that. And I'm going to point it out again. From the main page:

If you can't understand English, use the this page to choose your own language.

IF YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH, YOU CAN'T READ THAT TEXT. SO WTF IS THE POINT OF EXPLAINING? ROFLCOPTER. 71.246.245.50 08:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Spammers

Is anyone against implementation of SpamBlacklist extension with initial Wikimedia-CreativeCommons list? --Milos Rancic 08:02, 26 May 2005 (CDT)

If no one has anything against in the next seven days, I'll implement it on Meta. (I am asking all communities for that: i.e. people from Meta, deu:, eng: and fra:. I'll implement it on hrv:] because I don't think that my friend Marko has anything against it.) --Milos Rancic

Forum

(From Meta:) Blackat from French Anarchopedia asked me to open forum. I didn't open under anarchopedia.org, but I opened one multilingual forum (phpBB2) on http://forum.anarhija.org/ . If anynone thinks that it is useful, please use it. --Milos Rancic 08:22, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

"Anarchy," but registration required to contribute?

It seems like a gross contradiction in principle to require registration with a central database in order to contribute to a supposedly anarchic project. How can this possibly be justified? If the answer is "to avoid vandalism," isn't that massively hypocritical, given that that's the exact answer oligarchists and every other sort of pro-government political theorists would proffer to the question of why centralized government is necessary?

Crypto-anarchists are having a good laugh at this project.

mediawiki sucks, as it requires a central database, but at the moment it is the state of the art for wiki sites. Requiring registration was a measure adopted to counter spam from scripts (I don't agree with it also, as it may discourage some contributors). rev 22 22:19, 11 Nov 2005 (UTC)
A few more things, for registering you are not required to provide your real name or an email. You can also use an account without an hidden password like User:a did (user name and password are the same). Using IPs doesn't provide real anonymity. rev 22 01:14, 12 Nov 2005 (UTC)
Would it be possible to allow unregistered users to contribute but have some sort of image with text in it and a text field in which they must type what is in the image, to prevent bots from editing? While I agree that requiring registration isn't ideal, registering provides a hell of a lot more anonymity for the contributor, since the IP address is hidden. Olive 18:27, 23 Feb 2006 (UTC)
I don't think that this would be a normal Media Wiki behaviour, that's requre a little hacking of the code. User:Beta m/sig

Regisration IS NOT required. I didnt register, and look, im editing a page.
as you see, SOME anarchist don't change anything, they just addapt themselves in existing rules, behavior: "You are not logged in. Your IP address will be recorded in this page's edit history." clear spying. therefore, I will maybe contribute but only from libraries. not because I am paranoic than because I don't want to accept spying.
Your IP is always logged on every site you go to. If you donot want your IP to be shown in teh recentchanges list, just use a proxy , tor ur get an account here. --Blackredisbeautiful 14:53, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

We are using MediaWiki software. If you are willing to write your own php Wiki engine under the free license that is capatible both ways with MediaWiki and runs on the servers at our disposal, and then find the way to remove the logs from the internet service provider, which will keep the logs even if we ask them not to, we are willing to change. Rather than whine like you just did, i got my ass in gear and next year i'm working on the project freekiwiki which will allow to edit and view Wiki on the freenet.  ~ Beta_M (VolodyA! V Anarhist) Talk 17:03

Access for non-english-speaking peoples

IMHO is it a bad way, writing in a text in english how to change the language. If someone does not understand english, he_she will even not understand how to change the language of the anarchopedia-site. It seems to be better, if there will be a list at the left side of the page as in the wikipedia or the german version of the anarchopedia. --farnpflanze 20:37, 28 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion, I have added the links on the left side as on deu.anarchopedia (these are called interwiki links). Anonymous 21:28, 28 Jan 2006 (UTC)

reorganizing the main page

The Main Page is very overwhelming in my opinion. I think there are way too many links. In fact, I'm a bit puzzled by the Equipment for Life page in general. What exactly is the intent in that section? I would recommend something simpler such as what is happening at infoshop.org's encylopedia respectfully, Clay

P.S. I made an example of what I'm thinking- Test Main Page

I think deu, fra and pol, habe really nice Main Pages why don`t use them as an inspiration? --Blackredisbeautiful 11:33, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

excuse me

are you those guys that wander around complaining about everything since the world was created but no one really cares and people do what they want as if you didn't even exist? children i'm sorry but look at you with a website and all this blablabla and searching engine and stuff, you're doing just the same thing those you complain so much about do. admit children, you're going nowhere 'cause you got nowhere to go, you just having fun pissing people off. it's impossible to live in anarchy. sorry if i broke your little hearts. an exemple is that someone is going to attack me here (or not 'cause i said this) because i said what i think. or anyway, you got leadership, ideology and exemples to follow just like nazis and/or animals and are violent with those who disagree just like fascists and/or jesus, and that's why people laugh at you.

I hope you won't consider my reply an "attack":
  • this website (Anarchopedia) is an experiment in anarchy, but it is not run by an affinity group or closed circle of anarchists, anybody can partecipate;
  • many, probably most anarchists today are pacifists or non-violent. I personally consider that violations of the basic human rights and violence are unacceptable, unless for self defense when all other means have been exhausted. Rev 22 16:37, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Im not attacking anyone either, but im glad the "just compare them to nazis" strategy is still in use. Its so easy, isn't it? Every group has leaders, ideology, and examples to follow, but as long as you label your opponent as a nazi you can win pretty much every arguement. And can someone give me an example of a time Jesus was ever violent with those who disagreed with him? Or violent period?

anarcho-philosophy

hey people, I am a new Anarchist in the elite of philosophical anarchism. i was wondering if u people would like some neologsim? tell me what you think, alrgight...cause i created some neologism articles in wikipedia, and would like readers to spread the NEWS! --L O R D X101 23:16, 28 May 2006 (UTC)User:Xinyu

I am personally interested in it. I think we need neologisms to catalyze and boost the revolution ;). ~Rev 22 13:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Please, someone, do, concisely differentiate

this website from wiki.

Also, how do you handle requests regarding policy changes??

Wiki has thousands, millions, of excellent articles.

I, sometimes, feel as if I've learned more there than I had in various schools [that's 'sixties, 'seventies, somewhat 'eighties].

However, since I'm not in the clique, much of what I do is deleted, paricularly where I wiki-complain.

So, their knowledgebase can't grow as quickly as it might.

&, how did you get permission f/ the wikisoftware??

Hopiakuta 05:05, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello Hopiakuta, I will try to answer:
  • Anarchopedia does not have a detailed policy like Wikipedia, this is one of the main point about being anarchist; you can define broad principles but a detailed policy would require some kind of central enforcement.
  • Wikipedia has many more articles, but also many more active users. English Anarchopedia is not much right now (usually it has around 1-3 active users), but I think German Anarchopedia has been progressing very well.
  • Mediawiki is free software, so anybody can use it to create a website.
Welcome to Anarchopedia, by the way. ~Rev 22 13:23, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank You.

Does that mean that if I create a page, no more "speed - delete"?

Does that mean that if I write a new page,

or add to other persons', prior to deletion:

negotiation??

If I complain, is there discussion, or vengeance?

Is there a way to migrate pages to here, other than copy|paste? [wikipedia pages?]

Thank You.

Hopiakuta 16:15, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, in general only spam or complete nonsense gets deleted. Every registered user is a sysop in Anarchopedia (immediately or three days after first edit), so everybody can delete or undelete pages.
My personal convintion is that "power tripping" is the origin of most of the vengeances and the mobbing seen in Wikipedia. This happens because Wikipedia adopts a hierarchical social model, with separate classes of users (banned users, registered users, admins, arbitrators...), basically people who claim power over other people.
It is possible to automate the import of pages from Wikipedia, but at the moment copy and paste seems the only way. You can read or modify the related proposal at Anarchopedia:Wikipedia datadump.
See you, ~Rev 22 21:26, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Uh, oh,...

I'm attempting to decide which emotion to have,...

The phrase "spam or complete nonsense",... ahem,...

If you check my record there:

I post;

often within three minutes, someone accuses me of "spam", or "nonsense", or an "attack", or some synonym;...

delete, delete;...

This process can occur without my participation, or knowledge:

I eat; use other websites; watch television; run errands; sleep;...

So, no appeal, no defense,... nothing.

Now, in case you haven't noticed, my brain's different: so, I format sentences differently. I am different.

Now, if people could negotiate, & try to be positive; well, I could scribe about thousands of my perspectives, such as:

disability-access;

disability-culture;

emotional-disability;

cognitive-disability;

physical-disability;

transit;

racism;

economy;

politic;

turtles;

other pets;

my internet experiences;...

I do need a website that wants this dialogue.

Is this it??

Thank You.

While I was writing that, cbs ran a story about:

< http://pigeonblog.mapyourcity.net/blurb.php >;

< http://pigeonblog.mapyourcity.net >;

< http://pigeonblog.mapyourcity.net/blurb.php >:

"PigeonBlog provides an alternative way to participate environmental air pollution data gathering. The project equips urban homing pigeons with GPS enabled electronic air pollution sensing devices capable of sending real-time location based air pollution and image data to an online mapping/blogging environment. Pigeonblog is a social public experiment between human and non-human animals.

"PigeonBlog will be launched at ISEA 2006 in San Jose."

&, they wear "tiny backpacks", according to Mr. Bob Schieffer, cbs.

Hopiakuta 23:15, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I am not sure what is it that you mean exactly, but I guess it is ok. By spam I referred to commercial spam, advertisement or repeated linking to commercial sites. These are unwanted because Anarchism is anti-capitalist. Capitalism is incompatible with social justice. You can use your preferred way to express yourself. When something has a meaning to someone, it is not a non-sense, or at least this is how I see it. ~Rev 22 23:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank You.

Possibly, I'll scribe articles on those issues. I do hope to do so soon. Even, including the "tiny backpack" pigeons. If I do that one, I would likely cross-reference such issues as: pollution; global-warming;...

When I had registered, I had created various userpages, w/ variations of my screenname. I, now, realize that it would be preferable to merge & redirect. If you have guidance pages on that, someone, please do say.

Thank You.

Hopiakuta 00:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

It's simple. To redirect them, you have to replace the content of your pages with:

#redirect [[User:Hopiakuta]]

(or [[User talk:Hopiakuta]], if you prefer). ~Rev 22 01:26, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank You.

It does seem that some functions are the same as wikipedia. It does seem that others are, to varying degrees, different.

I've read much on wikipedia regarding "merge"; but, I've never attempted it. I do want to learn that, amongst other issues.

Thank You.

Hopiakuta 16:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Look out for vandals

220.239.134.188 is vandalising. --80.176.94.14 15:19, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Please, may we see some examples?

Possibly, via a historylog [-s] {one, or several}?

Thank You.

Boywiki

Why are there so many articles copied from the boywiki? There biased, written from the point of view of pedophiles, and just plain creepy. Why dont we just make our own articles instead? --Carlostmpl 21:32, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Carlostmpl

Formatting/editing

is there a way to get all the cool editing buttons (you know, the ones that automatically write the code for doing bold or italics and all that)? as well, i can't really figure out the method for linking to images in the wikipedia commons. where is this info!!!??? Murderbike 05:10, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

oh yeah, and stuff like infoboxes. can we use those? Murderbike 05:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

You'll need to speek to User:Millosh about doing changes to the Anarchopedia, that's regarding buttons in the edit. Personally i don't like them.
As for linking to images from Wikipedia commons, i say that if (and only if) they are in public domain or both copylefted and relevant to anarchism you will want to reupload them to [1]. But i think there is a way to link to wikipedia also, i'm not really sure how though.  ~ User:Beta_M (VolodyA! V Anarhist) Talk 2007 January 13 09:06 (UTC)

McAffrey antivirus

... program complains about Anarchopedia, because it does not like the link to Ugly.(something) - I am using a different machine, so cannot give the full URL.

Is this a problem that can be resolved?
