Sure Quality Internet Radio (SQR) is an online radio station by and for the boylove community. Started by Jeffrey Gold in March 2001, it broadcasts around the clock every day. Its slogan is, "YOUR Boylove PRIDE Station!"

Overview[edit]

The stated goals of Sure Quality Radio are

  • To reach out to the community, and build bridges between different communities (those of boylovers, non-boylovers, girllovers, and gays)
  • To motivate boylovers to action by building a sense of pride, fraternity, and community
  • To help organize and guide the boylove community through various activist exercises

Despite these somewhat serious-minded goals, the station generally has a fun and relaxed tone, although each DJ's show has its own character.

The station's main studio is located in Florida, USA, but DJs broadcast from wherever they are in the world. Listeners are encouraged to join the chat room (hosted on IRC and linked from the home page), where they can chat with each other and the current DJ.

SQR is mainly funded out of the pockets of its founder, but monetary donations are accepted, and there are occasional pledge drives. The money goes into new equipment and other costs relating directly to needs arising within the station. For instance, after the listening base increased sharply following the introduction of the station to the BoyChat community in March 2005, its broadcast servers were overwhelmed and required an upgrade.

Shows[edit]

Automated DJ and request service[edit]

When none of the DJs are available to do shows, the radio airs a mix of popular music from various genres, often by boy singers.

The Jeffrey Gold & Divinaw Show[edit]

Airing on Sundays EST, this is a popular call-in show. Anyone who has Skype is invited to call, and will be put live on the air. Topics of discussion range far and wide, from the benign and trivial to serious and important topics. Callers decide what they want to talk about.

The Appy Show[edit]

Also popular, BoyChat's Appy hosts a varied show. Each Friday he has a "serious topic" he will discuss, while his Sunday shows have more music and less talk. He will often go through the newspapers of the day to point out interesting or dumb news of interest to the community, and his shows often has entertainment features such as movie reviews. His shows typically create much discussion in the IRC channel.

Following the Brett interview, Appy introduced a watershed on his Friday show to help audiences living in restrictive jurisdictions, such as Norway and Canada. Since sexualized descriptions of children are illegal some places, Appy keeps any borderline content in the last hour of his Friday show.

Dylan Thomas – Posting Out Loud[edit]

Posting Out Loud, by Dylan Thomas, the current BoyChat webmaster, is primarily a talk show. Each show is centered around one main topic which he will discuss in length and depth. You may agree with him or not, but his views are well founded and the show is well worth a listen.

Mikie and the Boys![edit]

DJ Mikie plays music and talks about the going-ons in his life. Of his show the DJ says, 'If you hear any noise its just Mikie and the Boys!'

Rev. Justme in the Afternoon[edit]

Reverend Justme plays music, often with a Christian message, and talks about his life at a Christian school.

Late Late Show with DJ Renee[edit]

Everyone's favorite "mother", DJ Renee, stays up until sunrise to play music and take requests. Weather updates every hour.

The Oldies Show[edit]

We're not getting any younger, and neither is Jeffrey Gold. This show has all your favorites from the sixties and up until now.

The Divinaw Show[edit]

Divinaw plays music and chats. On the bottom of the hour, he plays his "Divi Boy Sets" – four boy songs in a row.

Security Concerns[edit]

There have been a number of concerns over the legality and security of Sure Quality Radio.

  • The Brett interview caused a great deal of controversy on Boychat. There were concerns that some of the sexual descriptions broadcast may be illegal in Canada, though the administrators of Sure Quality Radio dispute this claim.
  • The IRC chat room is a security concern for many, due to the insecure nature of IRC. Using a proxy, like Tor, will strengthen anonymity.
